Capitalism Republican Style

In a recent opinion piece posted in the Washington Post, one Ada M. Fisher talks about how the health care reform bill is a danger to Americans. She questions if the ailments of people who continue to smoke and eat unhealthy food should be covered by the people who keep themselves healthy. She also states that parents who have children with genetic defects and continue to have children knowing that these spawn may continue to have genetic defects should not be on society’s tab.

Your safety, in the hands of a child

Millions of dollars spent on anti-terrorism security, hundreds of hours cost towards controlling airport traffic, and some dad brings his kids to work and lets them play air traffic controller, for real.

The FAA has recently gotten hold of some tapes revealing a child’s voice directing air traffic at one of the US’s largest and busiest airport’s John F. Kennedy Airport. The recordings were from mid-February when many children were on extended break. Continue reading

Tourism Libel: Write it here, get sued there

In the UK, Tourism Libel is a term used in cases where a defendant charging someone with libel is either not from Britain, or the person charged with libel is not, or neither are from Britain. Although, the publication must have been released in Britain for the High Court to accept the case. The Lord Chancellor has set up a working group to review these cases in the media or other types of publication to ensure they are truly cases of libel.

One of the first cases of true ‘Tourism Libel’ can be traced back to Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1990 when he used the High Court to sue British author Wendy Leigh, when she used sensitive and unverified material in an unauthorized biography about Schwarzenegger. Continue reading

You won our 8th Gold, but NO DRINKING ALLOWED!

As celebration of the victory over the US women team went on in team Canada’s locker room last night, some players may have become over exuberant.

Included in the festivities were cigars, champagne, beer and underage drinking. One of the players Marie-Philip Poulin is 18 and was not of legal age to be drinking alcohol in BC. Of course this has caused some great ‘controversy’ and as has been the trend lately throughout the Olympics, Canada has been feeling the heat from the media over it already. Continue reading

CBS to air anti-abortion ad during Super Bowl, conflict to ensue

Super Bowl Sunday, a time for families to huddle around the television during the cold February days and watch two teams come head to head. A time for special commercials to be run, and according to CBS a time to promote anti-abortion.

CBS has announced it will run a 30 second ad to advertise anti-abortion starring, 22-year-old, Tim Tebow, formerly of the Florida Gators, and his mother Pam. The commercial is in support of the pro life group’s ‘Focus on the Family’ campaign. Continue reading
